Unknown Mortal Orchestra Live @ Echoplex 2/25/12
Saturday marked the second time I saw Unknown Mortal Orchestra play in Los Angeles in the last three months, and this time, the three-piece from Portland-via-New-Zealand blew my mind even more so than the first time. It may have been because Kody Nielson (brother of UMO’s front man Ruban) sat behind the drum set—a shock because I was expecting Julien Ehrlich, the band’s regular drummer.
(Now, don’t get me wrong, Ehrlich is a fantastically talented drummer, but the chemistry and intensity (and vocal harmonies) between the brothers Nielson is a force to be reckoned with (ie. the brothers’ old project, The Mint Chicks)).
It also could have been the fact that Ruban was in better health this time around, helping his vocals and energy. But, whatever it was, UMO melted my face off, and below are photos to prove it.
